Clack Mountain and Lockegee Rock. (legends and facts) Rowan County, Ky.
Before I start out here, let me warn you...
These places are verry dangerous in both
summer and winter, night and day.
I dont reccomend trespassing nor do I reccomend
climbing on the rocks. You can see most of the
locations from the roadway.
To see Lockegee Rock, You will first have to
find it, then find a place to park. As I said
before... I DONT RECCOMEND CLIMBING THE ROCKS.
Many have fallen, some to their death.
You Have Been Warned!
Clack Mountain Road East
In recent decades there has been some occult activity there.
When driveing down the road wou will see satanic symbols that
have been painted on the rocks.
Warnings such as "You Will All DIE" have also been painted there.
This came to my attention in the mid - 80's. Most locals say that
these were painted by kids. Others claim it was done by satanists.
It's also been rumored that the symbols and warnings have been
sandblasted from the mountain sides only to reappear years later.
Many people report getting a "bad feeling" as they come into the
vicinity of the long abandoned "sacrificial" rock. Others just
say they fear car trouble and have the dreaded thought of haveing
to walk for miles along an unpopulated streach of the roadway at
night.
Being from the area, I can say only this mutch...
Sometimes when I drive the road I see the paintings on the rocks
and sometimes I dont see them. ...And I have never seen any satanic
activity take place there (allthough I do notice the paintings).
I am thinking about keeping a journal and paying better attention
to the rocks when I drive thrue the area. I'll email the webmaster
with my findings so he can update this page.
One last note:
Many of these rocks could be on Private Property and as I said
before, I Dont Reccomend getting out of the car.
Lockegee Rock:
I havent heard of any hauntings there, but I have heard a few
of the people who fell off and survived say things like...
"There was a tree there until I leaned aganist it, and then it dissapeared."
"I leaned aganst a tree that wasn't there."
"I could have sworn there was a tree there."
"I was going to hold on to a tree and look over the side but it wasn't really there."
"I fell thrue the tree and tried to grab hold of it but my hands went thrue it."
If you go see Lockegee Rock, DO IT SOBER and DONT GO ALONE.
Make sure that at least 3 people have a cell phone.
