The Screaming Bride

here is another good appalachain mountain story from eastern kentucky.

an old weather-worn,four room dwelling formerly stood on a back road near morehead,ky.for years the house was in fair condition and well located upon a beautiful knoll,but it was usually vacant. no one lived in it because during dark misty nights the ratteling of heavy chains could be heard and on clear nights a woman dressed as a bride in white would often be seen and heard to utter some unearthly screams before vanishing suddenly.

one family that diregarded the noise and appearences of the ghost and continued to live in the house lost 2 children by death.the parents then moved away and never returned.on another occasion a tramp who attempted to spend the night in the deserted house was found strangled to death by a wedding veil.

the cause of the apparition was never solved.it is told,however,that years ago a beautiful girl lived in the house,and was dressed in her wedding gown awaiting her bridegroom.however,on the hour set for the marriage a messager came with word that her fiance had eloped with another woman.she was so overcome with shock that she killed herself.
